This
is analyze about Jess Wilsons work, where I wrote about her work what
I like about it what I don’t like about it, how it links with my own work and
ideas. I’ll also have critics view about the artist. I will also
be discussing the artist work comparing the artist work with other artist
work and my own and finally I will be concluding up my overall own views about
the artist work.
Jess
Wilson focuses on humorous events, which have happened in her life, which also
involve the media. She uses different mediums in her illustration and prints
such as crayons, paints, inks and paper. She’s also works with clients such as
Sony and Coke Cola, which have influenced her own work based around those companies.
Uniqlo TMG
I
like the artist work because I like the way that the artist has used a range of
different colours in some of her work and how she has used different styles of
front in her work, which is similar to my book cover designs. I also like her
drawing style because I find it unique and I believe her drawings are drawn
with accuracy. With some of her work I do find it hard to know what’s the main
purpose of the work and what it’s meant to show.
Theirs

one is called Uniqlo, where the artist has made a piece of work for Coca Cola,
which has a message around the Coca Cola bottles in different styles of written
promoting the product basically saying in life their will always be things like
at school their will be homework and with fun their will always be Coca Cola. I
like the work because of the way the artist has wrapped the message around the
bottles using different styles of front and colours used for different words,
which I feel would make the product stand out from the rest in a supermarket.
She also print the message on a t-shirt, I feel that maybe the artist should of
got rid of the background colours and should have made the bottles see-through
like my plastic bottles.
The
second piece is called TMG, which is a very colorful piece of work, where
different sections of the work has been coloured showing different sections of colour
on the work, where within each different section of colour, the artist has put
in different words in different styles of written, which shows the types of
words in which I believe the artist believes each human being should have
within them, like respect and effort. I like the work because I like way how
the artist has organized the piece, where each section of colour and the
different words fit in together and I also like how the colours of the letters
in my opinion fits in well with the background colours in each section, but I
feel the artist should of used more of a colour combination with more of the
words used.
Between
the two pieces of artwork I prefer Uniqlo because I like the idea better of how
the artist how redesigned a Coca Cola bottle to show a message going around the
bottle promotion the product and because I also like how I feel the idea of the
piece has work out well and how the lettering on the Coca Cola bottles have
also been printed on a t-shirt, which give the lettering design more of a wider
design range, but I do like how TMG has used a wider range of colours used for
the background and lettering than Uniqlo has.
Melissa
Chaib is another Illustrator, whose work is similar to Jess Wilson’s work where
this artist also uses different styles of writing in her illustrations and uses
a wide range of colours for different words in some of the images. I believe
Jess Wilson’s work is better because Jess Wilson uses a wider range of colour
in her work compared to Melissa Chaib and I like Wilson’s drawings better
because they stand out more to me with the style she uses, but some of Melissa
Chaib’s work does show the meaning better behind the work than some of Jess
Wilson’s work.
Theirs
similarities between Jess Wilsons and my work because we have both created
similar pieces of work to do with bottles, where we both have layered over
different types of bottles changing the surface of the bottles and we both have
created pieces of work using different styles lettering, where I used lettering
to created three different book covers and she has used lettering to show the
purpose and meanings of her work, but are work also have differences because I
have put drawings of bottles and plastic cups over the surfaces of the bottles
I used and Jess Wilson has put different styles of text over her bottles. With
the styles of written I have used the same colour for each letter used in each
word, while in some of her work the colours of the letters in some of the words
are different from each other and we have both used different styles of front
in are work.
Jess Wilson’s work helped influence my ideas for using
different styles of front for my book cover designs, where I used different
types of written out words in different fronts, which I could change and
develop better in Photoshop. Jess Wilson’s work also helped me develop the idea
to do a series of drawings of different types of flowers, which I could have on
the three book cover designs, where I could have three different book covers
with the designs based around my drawings and where I could also added colour
to the drawings by using the colour filter on Photoshop, where the colours of
the flowers and the background colour on the book cover could all match each
other, where they would all fit in well together for all three designs, where I
could explore different colour combinations.
Overall
I do like Jess Wilsons work because I do like the way that she has used a range
of different colours, which include different colour tones, where she has used
lighter and darker colours in her work, she also used different drawing and
front styles in her work, which have different purposes of showing what her
work is mainly about, which makes all her work different and stand out from
each other. I also like the way most of her work is about different ideas like
having different words in her work, which shows different meanings along side
some drawings and she also created a postcode map of London showing the
postcode of each area.

Long term fans of Amelia's
Magazine will no doubt recognize the inimitable work of Jess Wilson wherever they chance upon it: be it in my first
book, Amelia's Anthology of
Illustration, in the pages of zines produced by her Duke Press, on prints sold by the likes of East End Prints and Jealous Gallery, illustrating articles
in the Guardian magazine or
adorning the walls of building sites (she produced an amazing mural which for a
time existed opposite Rich Mix
on Bethnal Green Road). Her
quirky characters are created in rich pencil textures, usually accompanied by
decorative witty text. So it comes as something of a surprise to find out that
this is only her first solo show, and it's on now at Jealous Gallery in Crouch End. ‘The show is called No where
and is about nothing in particular. It's a series of prints and originals
created by Jess Wilson, which
will make you smile, (hopefully).'
